INGREDIENTS  YOU'LL NEED

Orange (thick peel)

Granulated sugar

Water

Lemon juice

Semi-sweet chocolate (optional)

After washing and drying  the orange, cut off the  bottom and top of the orange.  Next cut the peel vertically from one end to the other,  without taking the fruit part. Finally cut the peels into ¼ (6mm), ⅓ (8mm) strips.

Even if you take the fruit part,  you can easily remove that part with your knife.

 them in a pan, covering with water and bringing them to a boil. Next, remove the peels from the pan and drain.   Cover the pan with fresh water again and repeat the same process 2 more times.

Remove the bitter taste of the peels by putting

med-low heat and stir until the sugar dissolves.Bring to a simmer. Once it simmers add the orange peels and lemon juice(to avoid crystallization).

Put the water and sugar in a medium pan over

Let it simmer at low heat  for 25-30 minutes without stirring until the orange peels are almost translucent.

Place the candied orange peels on a wire rack and let them cool at room temperature.   If you like you can dip the peels into melted chocolate.
